 Private industry internships available
Summer internships at top Puget Sound area companies are now available to undergraduates and graduate students attending colleges and universities that are members of Washington NASA Space Grant.
These research internships are designed to supplement academic coursework and help to prepare students for careers in NASA-related fields. All internships are paid experiences.

2008 SURP applications available
The Space Grant Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) offers undergraduates the opportunity to work in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics research position that will complement their studies.
SURP student researchers work under the guidance of a faculty member, postdoctoral scholar or research scientist at the University of Washington. Some projects may involve off-campus locations or fieldwork.
Information for students and faculty is now available. The student application deadline is April 8, 2008.

NASA ERC in Seattle closes
The NASA Regional Educator Resource Center (RERC), located in the Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium offices on the University of Washington campus in Seattle, is no longer open.
NASA educational materials may be ordered from the main NASA Web site at www.nasa.gov or through NASA's Central Operation of Resources for Educators (CORE).

Change in Washington Space Grant leadership
Due to her increased responsibilities as associate dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs for the University of Washington, Dr. Janice DeCosmo has officially resigned as director of Washington NASA Space Grant.
Dr. Julie Lutz, a Space Grant associate director since 1996, will serve as the Consortium's interim director while we conduct a search for a new director.
The College of Arts & Sciences, in conjunction with NASA, invite nominations and applications for a faculty member to serve as director and principal investigator for this statewide higher education program based at the University of Washington. Please see the announcement of the director's position for more information.

SG scholar receives Goldwater Scholarship

Space Grant scholar Pavan Vaswani has been awarded a Goldwater Scholarship.
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships, established in 1986, are intended to help alleviate the nation's critical shortage of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians and engineers. This year 317 scholarships were awarded nationally.
Scholars are nominated by faculty and selected on the basis of academic merit. The awards cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year.
A sophomore, Pavan is majoring in computer science and biochemistry. He first became interested in research through the Space Grant Summer Undergraduate Research Program and plans to enter an M.D./Ph.D. program in biochemistry.
