Dear Space Grant scholars, student researchers and alumni,
As many of you know, I was recently appointed Associate Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs for the University of Washington. While this position will bring me new challenges and joys, it also means that I have to let go of other responsibilities.
I am writing to let you know that I have officially resigned as director of Washington NASA Space Grant. Julie Lutz, a Space Grant associate director since 1996, will serve as the Consortium's interim director while we conduct a search for a new director.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the years I have spent with Space Grant, mostly thanks to the pleasure of working with talented students and to have played a small part in helping you explore your passions to become scientists, engineers, educators and more. Working with a committed staff and enthusiastic support from NASA and our member institutions, I've also had the satisfaction of seeing Space Grant grow from offering a handful of scholarships and outreach programs to sponsoring a broad range of scholarships, local and national internships, and student research opportunities serving hundreds of undergraduates and learners of all ages across the state.
Throughout my time as director, I have enjoyed both the respect and enormous trust that you afforded me and I hope I managed to convey my trust in you and the deep respect I have for you as the future leaders in your fields.
Please do not hesitate to contact Janis Peffers or Julie Lutz with questions about Space Grant. Though I will no longer be Space Grant director, I will still be on campus working with students and welcome your visits and progress reports!
Best wishes to all of you,
Janice
