Deadline: March 31, 2023
For summer 2023, we have an excellent opportunity for UW graduate students to join us as graduate student leaders of SURP. This is a chance for graduate students to gain experience mentoring undergraduates while continuing to work on their own research. The time commitment is only a few hours per week, with the options to work in-person, remote, or hybrid. The stipend for graduate leaders for summer 2023 is $9,000.
Eligibility
UW graduate students in good academic standing who are interested in research in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM fields) are eligible to apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens (but do not need to be Washington state residents).
To maintain eligibility, graduate students must continue to be engaged in their own research over the summer.
Program dates
June 20 – August 18, 2023
Program requirements
- Weekly one-hour seminar with undergraduate cohort
- Timely replies to questions from undergraduate cohort
- Engaged in your own research during summer quarter
One of the key features of our Summer Undergraduate Research Program is that it gives undergrads the opportunity to develop their skills in presenting their on research through oral presentations and a research poster. Graduate leaders will facilitate these weekly seminars for their undergraduate cohort to practice and receive feedback on their oral presentations. The grad leaders are also expected to be available to answer additional questions (via email, &c.) from their undergraduate cohort. The total time commitment will be only a few hours a week.
